Even though delegating work may seem like a no-brainer, it’s often not the first idea that comes to mind when you’re contemplating how to get things done at work. Learn more about how it truly is one of the best approaches.
\nIt’s easy to get in the mindset that if you want things done the right way you have to do them yourself. But that isn’t always the best approach at work, even if you firmly believe you’re the best person for the job. There simply isn’t enough time in the day, especially if you have a business to run.
\nLike it or not, you must learn how to delegate work to your employees.\u00a0 I am learning this myself as I expand my practice.\u00a0 I was wearing myself out trying to do everything and stuff was falling through the cracks.\u00a0 So I decided to take the summer and wrangle my issues in order to open a path to growth and an easier, more streamlined process for all our clients.
\nHere are some helpful hints:
\n\u2022 Develop a game plan. Start by deciding which tasks to delegate and which employees will be assigned responsibilities. The workload doesn’t have to be etched in stone, but you need a basic plan to subdivide jobs.
\n\u2022 Find your most reliable, autonomous employees. You will need to rely on people who can think for themselves. Don’t rely on employees who you anticipate will be constantly seeking your guidance. If you have to show someone what to do every step of the way, it defeats the entire purpose.
\n\u2022 Don’t hinder your employees. Give them the authority to act independently and make decisions on the fly. Don’t hinder the process by requiring employees to obtain your approval on every decision. This will only turn into a variation of doing things the same old way.
\n\u2022 Keep track of work progress. This aspect must be handled with sensitivity. You’ll want to keep an eye on employees, but you can’t keep looking over their shoulders either. Find the proper balance.
\n\u2022 Analyze the results. Do this to determine if the work met your expectations. If it didn’t, offer constructive criticism for improvements. Make this a learning experience for both of you.
\nDon’t forget to work into the mix…Training, training, training!\u00a0 Yes it takes up a lot of time, but in the long run it is the thing that will work for you.\u00a0 Train your employees well enough they could leave you and treat them in a way they will never want to.<\/strong><\/em>
\nFind technology to assist.\u00a0 Automate, standardize, document every process you can so that anyone could pick up a task and with little help follow the steps to get it done.\u00a0 Use task management apps, use Zapier to make your apps talk to each other and automate repetitive steps, Use Slack to communicate and keep conversations between various groups going and segregated from other conversions.\u00a0 Find the apps your industry is using and embrace them!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>
\nAs you become more comfortable delegating work, you can continue to loosen the reins. When you spend less time on routine matters, you’ll have more time to devote to growing your business profits.\u00a0 Be a rain maker not a worker bee….you have to make it a priority, but if you plan a little, train a lot and find technology solutions…..you’ll be out there making it rain like crazy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
